Shopping online is a significant aspect of UK retail, and certain estimates suggest that it could make up one-third of sales by 2024. This increase is the result of the growing acceptance of e-commerce by consumers as well as technological advancements.

In the UK 57% of online shoppers cite convenience as the main reason for them to shop online. This is closely followed by 48% who state that it is easier to find special offers and deals, and 37% who say there is a wider range of products available online. In Europe more than half of shoppers mention lower prices as a major factor for their decision to purchase online.

Consumers are also willing to try new brands and products when they shop online. Online shoppers are open to trying new products and brands. Half of people are willing to try them when they shop on marketplaces like Amazon. Buy now pay later checkouts are a common choice for UK shoppers with 29% of online shoppers using a buy now, Shop Online UK Women's Fashion pay later option in the past year.

A solid return policy for online purchases for the UK is also a key aspect of ecommerce. The majority of online shoppers (59 percent) will research the returns policy of a retailer prior purchasing, and more than half will expect a retailer to be responsible for both the return and payment shipping.
